Closing dates

The final date to submit late Semester 1, 2012 applications for courses still open was Friday 10 February.

  • Refer to the key dates search (choose the category 'Applications - Return to Study/Intrafaculty change').
  • Special closing dates may apply for courses which require portfolios, auditions or interviews. See your course information.
  • Return to study after exclusion applications close on 20 January. Late applications will not accepted.

Entry requirements

If you are changing course you will need to demonstrate in this application that you meet the most recent entry requirements for the new course, some courses have additional entry requirements. If applicable you may also be required to meet the standard English language proficiency requirements (IELTS).

For course admission information you should refer to information in QUT publications or in the Study areas website.

Course progression

Depending upon the length of absence, students may be readmitted to a new course version with different fee and/or course structures. Credit for units completed prior to cancellation may not necessarily be retained.

Unit availability is not guaranteed for students returning to or changing courses for:

  • Semester 1 offers made after 20 January
  • any Semester 2 offer.

If you are made an offer after these dates, you should check with the relevant faculty on unit availability and selecting a study plan for course completion.

Return to study after exclusion

Complete applications for return to study after exclusion must be lodged by the advertised closing date (see key dates search) in order for applications to be considered by the relevant Faculty Academic Board. No further applications will be considered beyond the closing date.

QUT refuses admission to applicants who have been suspended from a higher education institution for non-academic reasons (discipline or misconduct) while the suspension or equivalent action remains in force.

QUT students seeking to return after being suspended from QUT must first appeal to have the suspension lifted before they can apply to return to study.

Applicants who have been excluded from a course as a result of unsatisfactory academic performance, either from QUT or elsewhere, will not be considered for admission to the same or a similar course or study program unless:

  • at least twelve months have elapsed since exclusion
    and
  • the application is accompanied by an appropriate written statement* to be reviewed as part of the re-admission decision:

*The written statement should outline your claim for re-admission and address such factors as changed circumstances, academic and/or vocational performance since exclusion, and maturity and motivation. This statement must be accompanied by documentation which supports your claim. Supporting documentation includes:

  • an academic transcript for tertiary study performance since exclusion
  • a vocational reference stating the nature of the position, length of service and comments on the level of your performance in that position
  • for changed circumstances you must show that the previous problems (ie financial, personal, vocational, medical etc) have been overcome and are unlikely to recur
  • a letter from your medical practitioner confirming your capacity to recommence studies after recovery from a medical condition.

Applications will be considered by the relevant Faculty Academic Board.

Please complete the cover sheet (PDF, 73KB) and attach to your hard copy documentation to be considered with your online application. For documents that do not need to be certified (eg your written statement) you can use the file upload function in section 5 of the online form.

Commonwealth assistance

If you are eligible for, and wish to seek, Commonwealth assistance in your new course and have been offered a:

  • Commonwealth supported place - complete a new Request for HECS-HELP form (eCAF)
    or
  • Tuition fee paying place - complete a new Request for FEE-HELP form (eCAF).

These eCAFs (electronic Commonwealth Assistance Forms) are available online in QUT Virtual under the Study page. You must complete an eCAF form on or before the census date of the first teaching period. For further information see Study costs.

Advanced standing

Advanced standing for prior QUT studies

If you are offered a place in a course and/or specific major, you will be automatically credited for any core units in your new course that you have previously passed at QUT. Units must have the same code and version. This information is available in QUT Virtual (eg JSB171.2).

Credit for core units in a major, second major or minor you have not yet chosen
You will only be credited for units you have previously passed after you have selected that major etc on your study plan.

Credit for non-core, option or elective units
You will only be credited for these after you have selected the unit in your study plan.

Units passed after your offer is made
If you pass a unit after being made an offer (eg after undertaking supplementary or deferred assessment) you will need to reselect the unit in your new degree to receive credit for it.

Old unit versions
If you have passed an older version of a unit (eg JSB171.1, JSB131.1 etc) your faculty will decide whether you are entitled to credit within 10 working days of your offer. If the unit has not been credited after this time and you would like more information please contact your faculty.

Advanced Standing for non-QUT studies

If you are applying for Advanced Standing based on prior studies at another institution, or if you wish to apply for any further Advanced Standing for QUT studies, please complete the Application for Advanced Standing (AS form) and submit after being offered a place and before the closing date.

Before completing the Advanced Standing form you should search the QUT Advanced Standing Precedent List (ASPL) a compilation of past Advanced Standing decisions.

If you find an advanced standing decision on the ASPL that you are eligible for, copy the precedent ID into the appropriate area of the Advanced Standing application. This will ensure that your request for advanced standing is processed as quickly as possible, and will help you to make correct unit choices when you enrol. Please note the ASPL is a guide only and is subject to change.

For closing dates see the key dates search (choose the category 'Credit for prior learning (Advanced Standing) applications', the teaching period and the year of your application). Late applications from the first day of the teaching period will incur a $50 late application fee.
